Cassill going back to Cali for Auto Club 400 in Fontana
Landon Cassill enjoyed Phoenix so much last weekend that he's staying out west to race in this weekend's Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, where he will once again be in the No. 34 Love's Ford Fusion.
Fontana has been good to Cassill. He finished in the top 20 there last year for Front Row Motorsports.
"Auto Club is a fun race for me. We finished 16th there last year and had a really good run and a really strong late-race restart where I held off some pretty strong cars. So I was pretty proud of our performance there last year. We definitely have similar expectations for our Love's Travel Stops team this weekend," he said.
Auto Club Speedway is a big, wide, 2-mile oval, and it's a race track that has changed for the better over the last few years, according to Cassill.
"It shows that you can have such a huge, wide race track and 40 cars on it, and they can race four-, five-, six-wide without any real issues. And it's amazing how the cars draft down the straightaway and then just completely spread out in the corner. They look like they're hundreds of feet away from each other, and then they kind of come back together down the straightaway," he said.
The racing is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. CDT Sunday on FOX.
