Buescher hangs tough with one race before Chase

Hold on tight, NASCAR fans: There is only one more regular-season race before the Chase for the Championship starts, and Front Row Motorsports driver Chris Buescher is still in it after Sunday's race at Darlington.

Buescher finished 17th in the throwback #34 Love's Ford Fusion this weekend after starting in 31st position. The operative word for the Bojangles' Southern 500 was "slick."

"The track has definitely worn from age quite a bit. It was slick out there, but we stuck it out all day with our Love's Fusion. We kept making adjustments to work our way forward and to get the Lucky Dog a couple times to put us back on the lead lap again," Buescher said.

For those who don't follow NASCAR closely, the Lucky Dog is the first driver who is a lap down. That driver gets put back onto the lead lap when the next caution flag drops.

Nevertheless, Buescher was pleased with his Labor Day weekend performance.

"I would've liked for us to run a little bit better, but at the end of the day, that was a pretty good run for us and a good points day as well," he said.

Indeed, it was a good points day for the Sprint Cup rookie from Prosper, Texas. He remains 11 points ahead of David Ragan and 28 points ahead of Regan Smith. Buescher's focus this weekend in the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond will be staying near or ahead of those two drivers.

Buescher's next race in the Love's car comes September 18 at the MYAFIBSTORY.COM 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.
