Victory Lane is so sweet for NASCAR rookie Chris Buescher

Mark the day. Mark the time. Just after 4 p.m. Eastern Time on August 1, Front Row Motorsports driver Chris Buescher won his first Sprint Cup NASCAR race -- and that win has the rookie from Prosper, Texas, in contention for a spot in the Chase.

Buescher's primary sponsor is Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores, but he was driving a car sponsored by South Carolina company Dockside Logistics on Monday, a day after the Pennsylvania 400 was supposed to have run. It was delayed a day because of persistent rain.

However, it was fog as thick as pea soup that catapulted Buescher to victory, thanks to a decision by Crew Chief Bob Osborne to keep Buescher on the track during a caution late in the race. Fog prompted race officials to wave the red flag with only 22 laps to go, and then a storm with a tornado warning prompted them to call it.

Buescher drove to Victory Lane. Actually, he walked given that the race was called under a red flag. But he was definitely excited about the win, and there's no denying that the victory is a game-changer for the entire team.

“This is going to change our whole year right here, so this puts us in a good situation,” Buescher said. “It was a lot of fun. The guys really toughed it out. It’s pretty awesome to be here right now."

How does it change his season exactly?

Buescher is only six points out of 30th place in the overall Sprint Cup standings. With his race victory, he would qualify for NASCAR's playoffs if he can make up those six points and get into 30th position.

He's got five races to get it done.

"We’re in a good spot and we can definitely make up those six points. And we’re going to try to get a lot more than that and be ready when the Chase does start to make sure we can advance as it goes through," Buescher said.
