August has been a really good month for NASCAR Sprint Cup rookie Chris Buescher.

First came Buescher's win in the thick fog at Pocono on August 1. Then came a Top 5 finish on Sunday in between rain storms at Bristol Motor Speedway in what was called the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race. It did indeed start on Saturday night, but most of the race was run on Sunday afternoon.

Buescher's fifth-place finish has him eligible for the Chase for the Sprint Cup, NASCAR's playoffs, which get started on September 18 in Chicago. His eligibility is provisional, meaning he needs to do well enough in the next three races to maintain a spot in the sport's overall Top 30. However, with races at Michigan, Darlington and Richmond standing between Buescher and that immense opportunity, he appears to be in good shape.

"I know we had to get into the top 30 in points. That’s Chase eligibility in one race out of the four we had to do it. Now, we have to hold onto it. We’re looking forward to the next handful of races. We’ve got some really good tracks for us coming up," Buescher said.

That confidence from the Front Row Motorsports driver is infectious, and the entire racing team had a blast, he said.

"It's been a long time since we've come to the race track and enjoyed it like that. We had awesome speed out of our Love's Ford Fusion. I'm really proud of this team," Buescher said.

The race weekend started out strong for Buescher, netting a 12th place start after qualifying on Friday. That's his best starting position as a Sprint Cup pro. From there, Buescher stayed aggressive but played smart, avoiding early wrecks and running as close as fourth late in the race.

"We kept working our way up towards the end and got to the Top 5, and almost got one there at the end. I absolutely love this race track. What they did with the surface worked out really well and made for some really good racing," he said.
