Students reflect on successful Dance Marathons

Love’s is proud to sponsor Dance Marathons across the country benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Four Texas schools recently danced the night away all for the kids. University of Texas at Dallas, Stephen F. Austin State University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Southwestern University raised more than $30,000 for their local hospitals. These events were great, but don’t take it from us!

Four schools, four people, one cause.

“Being part of the Dance Marathon movement is the most influential and rewarding experience I’ve had in my entire college career. This year was CometTHON’s second year, and I have absolutely loved watching CometTHON grow on campus. Thanks to the support we had from Love's this year, we had the resources to share our mission and vision to the campus and to the community. Once people discovered the meaning of FTK, miracles just started happening. It was amazing to see students come together to rally around our miracle kids and the cause. We will never stop fighting for the kids.”

“After visiting Trinity Mother Frances Hospital and hearing stories from families, I kept thinking someday it could be me or my sister or my cousin or my best friend. I realized leading a Dance Marathon was a serious investment in the health and well-being of my community and a number of people that I care about and love. One of the best days was when we reached $1,000 raised. Three months and 8,336 miracles later, I feel honored to be a part of something so powerful and wonderful. Thank you, Love’s, and thank you, Dance Marathon. You have changed the hearts and lives of students and made miracles possible.”

“I’ve had the opportunity to meet amazing people, some strong families and witness a community come together for the kids. Throughout the entire planning process, we had generous support from campus organizations, the faculty and the student body. Our first Dance Marathon could’ve never happened without all of the backing and work the community gave. Walking across campus I would hear people talk about it and I could feel my heart swell. Standing on stage with the committee and miracle families, and looking out at all of our dancers and partners, I was in awe of the amount of people who decided to put others above themselves, donate, and dance for the kids.”

But it is not every day that you get to see your actions bring change to world around you. That is why the first Piratethon at Southwestern University was so special. That night, everyone involved got to witness the impact their efforts had on the lives of so many families. That night, we changed the world for the better. For six straight hours, college students, faculty, Miracle Kids and their families danced, sang, played and pledged to embrace the battle that these families face together as one united community. Piratethon looks forward to many more successful years; our work here has just begun."
