"Lady in Black" gives Gilly a respectable finish at Darlington
On a night when Front Row Motorsports driver David Gilliland was trying to be extra smart with his tires, it was on his oldest set of tires that he had his longest run.
So went the Lady in Black, as Gilly finished 27th on Sunday after starting 38th at the Bojangles' Southern 500 in Darlington, South Carolina.
"Our car would get really, really loose after about 20 laps into a run, but we got it better. Like everybody else, we were trying to be smart with our tires, managing stickers and scuffs. And actually on our longest run of the night, we were on our oldest set of tires. But that's just a product of Darlington," he said.
Gilliland said he was proud of his finish.
"A 27th place, lead-lap finish is respectable. Our Love's Travel Stops Ford is in one piece, and we learned a lot," he added.
Gilly's next race in the #38 Love's Ford is at Chicagoland, and it's going to be a special week. He'll be driving a racecar with a special design created by Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Miracle Child Jack Benjamin. We will definitely have more information and photos next week about that, but in the interim, here are some photos from this week at Darlington!
